Members of our team participating in one of the workshop activities.Exploring the framework that’s helping turn our vision into measurable impact.
As part of our mission to build stronger, more connected communities, the Centre team recently took part in a full-day Theory of Change workshop facilitated by Dr Bridget Sealey (Sealey Associates) and Allice Hocking. The workshop formed part of our ongoing commitment a Theory of Change that will guide our research, governance, and community-building efforts.
A Theory of Change is a way to explore and document the ways in which a project will work to effect change.
What is a Theory of Change?
A Theory of Change is a way to explore and document the ways in which a project will work to effect change, as well as who will be affected by this change and the impact that the change will have.
It connects the dots between inputs, activities, outputs, outcomes, and long-term impact. It helps us to understand the pathways to building more connected communities, as well as some of the enablers, barriers and assumptions that underpin this work.

How will a Theory of Change support the Centre?
At the Centre for Collaboration in Community Connectedness our Theory of Change helps us measure impact and ensure our research truly strengthens community connections. It helps us to align our whole team around one shared strategy and vision, and encourages a collaborative environment between our team, our communities and our stakeholders.
The Theory of Change also supports our learning process, allowing us to adapt where needed and strengthening accountability through making our goals and progress more transparent.
The workshop helped us to refine our existing Theory of Change. We identified and prioritised both outcomes and success indicators, and mapped relationships between activities, outputs and outcomes. This work is providing us with a strong foundation for the future.
What’s Next?
As a team, we are working to continue the refinement of our Theory of Change, and we will look at ways in which we can represent this journey so that it can be shared with our communities.
We want to thank Bridget and Allice for their amazing workshop facilitation, and for the work and support on our Theory of Change journey!
